b'Archie FisherGetting to know Archie was a ticket to a whole new world of music and players. Edinburgh was the place to be in acoustic music in the 1960s, many famous players started there, and I have many good friends from North of the Border. Archie knows everybody way back to year dot and he was my way of keeping track of Davy Graham while Davy was keeping his head down for so many years. In return for teaching me about whisky and showing me the proper way to play Big Bill Broonzy, I have rescued his beaten up old Saabs, got him to gigs on time and supplied guitars that persuaded me to take my guitar playing seriously. I can even hold a vaguely intelligent conversation with him about his quarter horses and endurance horse riding. The picture here is of a large poster that I used as publicity for a while, its obviously very out of date, but it marks an important time for me, when Archie was a regular visitor, often with other members of his family, who also of course, bought guitars from me.I used his picture on my publicity for quite a while and I coined a phrase, which I think has him to a T - The man with the Brown Velvet voice.65'
