Drugs and their dangers

Drugs and their dangers is a resource for teachers produced by Freeway.

Freeway is an initiative of the British National Temperance League. Its aims are to promote healthy drug-free life styles and to inform on the effect of alcohol and drugs on individuals and communities.
I worked with BNTL to create a range of resources for schools as well as training courses in drug and alcohol awareness.
I also created their corporate identity managed their marketing campaigns, including advertising, exhibitions and web development.

The illustartions for this programme were specifically commissioned to appeal to the target age group. Illustrator Deborah Theobald.

Teacher’s introduction to Drugs and their Dangers

Why this pack?

Following publication of Thinking About Drinking packs for KS3 and KS2, BNTL undertook research with primary schools which revealed high levels of demand from both teachers and healthcare professionals for a basic alcohol education resource for key stage 1. This is that resource. The purposes of the resource are two-fold:

1. to raise awareness of relevant alcohol-related health and welfare issues among young children to help them avoid hazards associated with alcohol consumption

2. to let young children know that it is OK to ask for help with alcohol related problems that may be adversely affecting their school-life and their home life.

The materials are presented as a set of three comprehensive, fully resourced and illustrated lesson plans that tackle a variety of important topics in a non-threatening and non-judgemental way. Their purpose is to provide such information as is appropriate to the target audience and to encourage them to think about drinking and the consequences of drinking.
